  This book giving some extraordinary keto supper prep equations for cooking. There is a little information on the keto diet and a short time later a gathering of recipes. The recipe themselves are okay, some are helpful for supper prep others are unquestionably not. Surely would not recommend acquiring.

• The recipes in this book are so delicious. Also, I see that people are getting confused about the "5-ingredient" part in the title. There's obviously more than 5 ingredients needed. Each recipe has its 5 main ingredients, not 5 ingredients total in the book. My favorites are the jalapeno bacon egg cups, shrimp and avocado salad, and the Parmesan baked chicken.

• I now feel empowered to eat all of the woods.
• I don't usually review products I buy, but I am compelled to review this one. This book is everything I hoped it would be! The design is fresh and direct, and the content is really valuable and easy to follow. I'd say this is a book you can definitely judge by its cover.
  
  BUY IT!
• Bought this for my daughter who is an avid outdoorswoman. But I sneak a peek at it whenever I get a chance because it is a good read. Very good information about EVERYTHING you need to know if you get lost inthe wilderness. We thought we knew a lot, but we're learning more.
• This book has wonderful pictures to help you guide yourself with finding vegetation a that is safe and edible in the outdoors and much more about overall snares to catch game.
• This is an interesting read. I've been interested in foraging for a long time. This book has a lot of information about how to determine edibility of plants. It also is a very easy read and has a lot of information.
  
  My issue lies in that the author does not provide any specifics. I have another book that goes into depth on plant types and their edibility. I was hopeful this would also provide more specific information. This is more of a general guideline on how to forage.
• I read this book years ago. Where and how I lost it I do not know. Because of the political environment I joked I had better review my military survival skills. Ergo, back to Bradford's book.
  This is not the end all survival book. But it is darn close. I would think those Alaska survival contestants would do well to study the advice presented here.
  Everyone should have some level of survival skill. We may not want to live off the land. But, who knows.

• Got as a Christmas gift for a person is really into outdoors activities. Went over REALLY well. He loved it! Plus, the texture on the book feels like tree bark, which is super cool. Legit a great gift! Ranges from things you can pick and eat to different ways to trap animals. Super interesting.
  
  It also has great illustrations to show you things, which makes it much more readable and enjoyable.

• Few books grab and hold me from start to finish but this was one that I just could not put down. It contains factual information that I had never before known regarding the birth of the Jewish State and those brave youngsters who repeatedly risked their lives in support of the birth of Israel despite the largely disorganized activities they conducted daily. The author's descriptions of the places, activities and players made me feel as if I was personally participating from page to page throughout his excellent reporting. BRAVO and THANK YOU to the author as well as each and every participant described herein.
• It's almost an oxymoron to be a "spy of no country," and yet here it is spies of a yet-to-be country, so immersed in their work that they were unaware of Israel's birth. The danger was palpable, and Friedman portrays it with tasteful restraint.
  
  Words rarely fail me, but in trying to describe the book, here they do. It's small, but it's intensely moving. It was hard to put down.
• Though not yet a nation, Israel’s fledgling intelligence network recruits four, heroic Sephardic Jews devoted to the Zionist ideal. Sketchy stories, serious and dangerous, emerge from the author’s overly detailed but murky style. As Israel’s resources were limited and impoverished, the young men largely depended on their own wits and skills.
  Clearer however are Friedman’s accounts of Ashkenazi racism against their Arab Jewish brothers Friedman refers to as “blacks” knowing the term is inaccurate. Interestingly omitted are the many derogatory terms Ashkenazi Jews pinned on European Jews, those from Germany, Poland, Romania etc. More shocking was the nefarious suggestion that Sephardic Jews were not wanted in Israel, but what could the Ashkenazi do?
  The book winds in and out of the spies individual stories. Regretfully remiss by the book’s end, Friedman offers not even a wink of Israel’s fully integrated society. No doubt Israel’s first spies, (immigrants from both societies,) lived to see their grandchildren marry Jews from the very different cultures.
  And Yigal Allon, never had a home in Israel? Really? In spite of all his many successes? Fascinating. IDF commander, Government minister, Renowned archeologist with unfettered access to Israel’s antiquity of which he enjoyed..
  Not Friedman’s best work.
• When Americans think of Israeli history, we fasten on a handful of names Chaim Weizmann. David ben Gurion. Golda Meir. We think of kibbutzim, the Israeli Defense Force, the country's great universities, and its legal system. All these people, and many others whose names are prominent in the country's history, are of European origin. And every institution they created was a product of European thought and tradition. That simply reflects the fact that "in the 1940s, nine of every ten Jews in Palestine came from Europe."
  
  Yet the persistent image of Israel today as a Western outpost in the Eastern Mediterranean is highly misleading. To understand how that changed and so deeply influences the nation's politics today, you can do no better than to read Israeli-Canadian journalist Matti Friedman's revealing new book, Spies of No Country.
  
  Four young Arab-speaking Jewish men were the first Israeli spies
  
  Friedman's book tells the tale of four young Arab-speaking Jewish men who became spies for the scattered forces working to establish the State of Israel. They had emigrated to join Jewish settlements in Palestine from their homes in Damascus, Aleppo, Arab-occupied Jerusalem, and Yemen. They were, in a word, Asian Jews, like millions of others who later fled the towns and cities of the Middle East and North Africa following Israel's declaration of independence in 1948.
  
  Though Friedman doesn't venture into Israeli political history, it's clear that long-neglected population rose into prominence in 1977 with the election of Menachem Begin. The country's rightward shift ever since then is one result. As Friedman points out, Asian Jews account today for half the country's population, and they tend to be poorer and less well educated than those of European descent. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's long term in office is only the most recent manifestation of the sea change they embody in the country's political orientation.
  
  "There was no state called Israel, nor did it seem likely there would be one."
  
  The four men who constitute Friedman's principal subject were among some ten Arab-speaking Jews recruited by the Palmach in the years leading up to the War of Independence. They were formed into an Arab Section that has received scant attention from historians. The men were sent, singly or in teams, to Beirut and other Arab capitals to gather intelligence, armed with their wits and only the most minimal training. "There was no state called Israel, nor did it seem likely there would be one. The United Nations had no way to enforce the partition plan" mandated by the General Assembly in November 1947. And war had immediately broken out following its passage.
  
  They were "the embryo" of the Mossad
  
  It's difficult to imagine how poorly trained and ill-equipped were the men of the Arab Section. As Friedman wrote, "there weren't any cars. At the time, the Arab Section didn't even own a radio. When they needed a camera for one surveillance mission . . . they'd had to borrow a Minox from a civilian they knew." And at first there was no money, either. "It wasn't just that the Palmach couldn't pay salaries. The unit couldn't always cover bus fare or a cheap plate of hummus for lunch, and on at least one occasion agents had to stop trailing a target because they didn't have money for a night in a hostel.
  
  "The men lived by their wits, acting on instinct that frequently led them to make mistakes. Yet they survived (unlike most of their fellows in the Arab Section), and they succeeded in feeding useful intelligence to their handlers in Palestine. "[A]fter hostilities began in 1948, the Section proved to be one of the only effective intelligence tools the Jews had."
  
  However, there is no earth-shattering revelation in Spies of No Country. The four agents's "mission didn't culminate in a dramatic explosion that averted disaster, or in the solution of a devious puzzle. Their importance to history lies instead in what they turned out to be—the embryo of one of the world's most formidable intelligence services." And one of the four men Friedman writes about became one of Mossad's most celebrated agents.
• Well and carefully researched, this book reads like good spy fiction, given gravitas by thoughtful reflections of the author. Recommended for anyone interested in true spy accounts or the origin story of the State of Israel.
• Just when you think there is nothing new to learn about the post-WW II British Mandate era, along comes a book like this.
  This is the story of people that history books left behind.
  Well written book. Very insightful and informative.
• Evocative. The reader “is there.” The book gives insight about the subject unknown to us in the West.
  
  The book is profoundly human.
• This is yet another great story from Matti Friedman that can be read with so many different lenses.

• I lOVE this book. It is revolutionary. Imagine a time management system that relaxes your body and soul and mind and in so doing makes you more effective! I have been practicing Kate's Do Less system from her online material and it has transformed my life, my sleep and settled my nervous system. I am so excited to have this book in my hands. I am a busy mother and I coach busy mothers to listen to their body's cues and their intuition as they mother. This book is going to to take my work with mothers to a whole new level. I have no more guilt about "not doing enough" each day. That's a miracle. I can't wait to share this book with my clients.

• My favorite part about this book was the insight around women's menstrual cycle and the relationship between energy and time management. It is absolutely worth the read for that chapter alone. I took away some strong insights that I will use in the future and highly recommend!

• I've read a fair number of historical and cultural books on Hawaii, and this one is quite unique. The author doesn't seem to pull any punches and you get the story warts and all, and in much detail. He clearly did his research. I have only two complaints. One is that rather than telling the story in chronological order, he separates the history into topics. It's a little disconcerting to read different events, some of which happened before and some after ones that you already read about in an earlier chapter. I didn't find the constant use of Hawaiian names or terms difficult - if you're going to read a history of any country, that's part of it. My second minor criticism is the often stilted language that is used. Many times it is charming and quaint, other times it is too much, like someone who feels compelled to use words and phrasing that require dictionary use. Don't get me wrong. I write a lot and use a wide vocabulary; it's just that complexity for complexity's sake has little value to the reader. But, of course, the peculiarities of expression and stilted phrasing in the telling do establish a certain mood and tone, that is not objectionable. If you want Hawaiian history, I would still suggest the standard texts (Daws, et al.) but this adds spice to what many authors have made dry and boring and strictly factual. In my own view, this is an extremely valuable picture for use in the present. Hawaiian history as taught at some universities and expressed by some protest groups is ignorant of much of what Haley achieves with his story - that Hawaiian history is not a story of innocent native peoples being oppressed by imperial powers. It shows there was good and bad, deceit and cunning, oppression and cruelty on both sides, and that is what contemporary college professors and protestors either don't know or deliberately choose not to acknowledge. As I watch Facebook videos, for instance, of some of those involved in the Mauna Kea protests and hearings, it seems that some do not know their own history as they cite one-sided lists of wrongs done to them. Both Hawaii's leaders and followers had failings that led to bad results, too. In this regard, this book is valuable reading for all. A bit perplexing is how this book winds up. After page after page of patient plodding through the past, the modern era, indeed much of the 20th century, is condensed, almost as an afterthought and as a bit of an apology. My problem is that it overlooks issues of land control and political corruption, although there are good books that focus on that alone. All in all, a great work of scholarship and a useful addition to the record of Hawaiian history.
• "That Hawaii would one day end up a possession of an imperial power seems inevitable." Thus concludes James L. Haley in Captive Paradise A History of Hawaii. Hawaii was a pawn in an era of shifting global power, a central theme of Haley's book. He discloses upfront and unapologetically his intent to present Hawaii's saga with objectivity, no easy feat given the controversial nature of his subject.
  
  Haley opines that there was a time when political correctness meant telling the Hawaii story as one of America's greatness, rationalizing the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands in paternalistic terms. More recently, the trend has been to focus on the plight of Hawaiian natives, condemning the exploitative behavior of imperialists.
  
  Haley argues convincingly that reality lies somewhere in between these two perspectives. Before the arrival of the imperialistic powers, native chiefs and kings at times inflicted unspeakable horrors on the common people; in the imperialistic era, European powers, and later Americans opportunists, exploited the simple and trusting people of Hawaii in a power struggle that ended with American domination.
  
  Haley captures the breadth of this complicated and troubled history in a seemingly balanced manner. His writing is a bit dry, but his facts are well researched and presented. The book is slow to engage the reader, perhaps in part because the names of people and places are so dissonant to most of us. But eventually Captive Paradise does engage. For anyone interested in more than the stunning beauty of Hawaii and its storied beaches, I recommend persevering and reading Haley's book through the final chapter. It will not disappoint.
• Haley’s Captive Paradise is a book that starts in very good shape and persuades the reader early with a simple argument The goal of the project is to provide a holistic approach to the history of Hawaii that a reader won’t find in any scholar manuscript or in a novel. In fact, the author argues that the book has escaped the academic stringent frameworks to detach from “(…) race, gender, and exploitation [that] have ruled the scholarly paradigm’’ (p. xiii).
  
  I was captivated and very enthusiastic with the project, and the first chapters on the ascend and reign of Kamehameha I are powerful and enlightening. The author succeeds in portraying a landscape that helps a reader to understand the importance of the first King of Hawaii beyond his critical role toward the unification of the islands into one single kingdom. Indeed, the treatment of Kamehameha was holistic, and it was fascinating to learn his relation with his “enemies”, how powerful and feared he was, and his strategic use of marriage to foster the adoption of Western arsenal and warfare techniques. With breakfast you can infer the quality of lunch and dinner, and the quality of the first pages of the book was good.
  
  Unfortunately, the following chapters are apples falling far away from the tree. The author fails on bringing his promised holistic view and instead overemphasizes on the religious aspects coming both from Hawaii’s elite transition toward Christianity and the subsequent role of the missionaries in Hawaii in virtually every aspect of the Hawaiian history. It is fair to say that the main characters of the book are the missionaries, leaving the role of sugar poorly treated. If one promises a holistic view, materialism should be part of it, not as an ornament to religion but as a building block of the story on its own.
  
  On a personal note, I found myself often thinking about other things while reading the pages of this book. The author’s style pushed me away, and after the first few chapters, I wanted to finish the book hoping that the tone of the first chapters would return. But it never came back. I think the author pursued a style that combined scholarly research and good story telling, but failed on both areas. I recommend the book for people interested in the religious condiments of the history of Hawaii, but if you want to learn more about the role of Hawaii as a sugar enclave and how critical this element was toward the dependency and later annexation to the U.S., this is not the book for you.

• I've long been a fan of R. Crumb's art and have been looking forward to Art & Beauty Magazine # 3. This book combines all three numbers into one hardcover volume. Those that only know R. Crumb from his comics are in for a treat. The subject matter is pure R. Crumb but the drawings are fine art. R. Crumb has a way of rendering portraits that combines the best of comic art and line drawing illustration. The book is beautifully done and it's great to have a hardcover version of all three editions of Art & Beauty Magazine. R. Crumb fans will not be disappointed and those unfamiliar with his art may become fans. Recommended!
• You see R's view of the human form carries from the cartooning to real life. The book rounded out the artist in my mind.

• I've been struggling to answer this question for years and was hoping that HILLBILLY ELEGY would at least begin to answer that question and help me understand. It didn't. In contrast, I'm happy to say that Dr. Metzl writes a searing, intelligent analysis which encompasses a wide psychological and sociological grasp of people, places, politics, and positions. Highly readable, I felt that finally someone gets it and helped me get it!
  
  Although I saw the author on television in the same interview many reviewers allude to, I'm particularly alarmed that someone reviewed this book without having read it. Bizarre, but these are the times we're living in -- the age of being proud of one's own ignorance. Thus, a major point of the book is highlighted.
  
  Highly recommended.
• I also have not yet read the book. But I want to counteract the one-Star review of another person who has NOT READ THE BOOK below. my impression of the author on Morning Joe this morning was the polar opposite why DO people vote against their own interests. Why a person on his deathbed would STILL deny the validity of the ACA because he didn’t want ‘his tax dollars to help Mexicans and Welfare Queens. ‘ THAT is racial bias that Republicans have promoted!
• This book was a great read. The author help the reader gleam the heart of people who would rather harm there own existence then be humane to others. I live in the south. Mississippi had the opportunity to expand medicaid. My Republican party did not want to expand Medicaid. The medical industry is our largest employer. Most people on Medicaid are white and elderly, but most people think it is benefiting black people in the state. However, the rural white people would benefit the most. It would also bring more revenue and jobs to the state. It reminds me of the cult mentality, that caused the followers of Jim Jones to commit suicide, regardless of the red flags and facts. This book opened my eyes. You can not change hate, unless the individual wants to be reasonable. Some people are their own worse enemy. It is sad that they are willing to die in ignorance and hate rather than change. We hurt ourselves when we blame our problems on people who do not look like us.
• I saw an interview this morning and immediately purchased and downloaded for . I finished it several hours later. As a citizen of Tennessee, I found his insights on the failure of Tennessee to expand Medicaid to be on target. I am looking forward to others I know reading the book, so we can discuss it. While the first chapter sets the context, it may seem very academic. Depending on your learning style, some people may prefer starting at chapter two and then coming back to read chapter one later.
• I would point out that the reviewer who did not read the book, but gave it 1 star because he took umbrage with a physician telling him about “white southerners”, exemplifies the mindset that Dr. Metzel is describing — a partisan filtering of information and unwillingness to thoughtfully consider information that runs counter to political propaganda. CNN had a town hall in 2017 with coal miners from W. VA who benefited from the Medicaid expansion in the ACA and the finding for rural health centers that the ACA provided. They had healthcare coverage for serious and chronic illnesses, and no longer had to drive two or theee hours to their doctors. This was at the height of the “repeal and replace Obamacare” push by Trump and the GOP in congress. Many were in tears, realizing that their votes for Trump put them
  In a position of losing their healthcare access. Sadly, many of them didn’t realize that the ACA was “Obamacare”. This book explores the culture and information silos and frankly, misinformation campaigns that cause people to vote against their own interests. Well worth the read prior to 2020.
• Perhaps this is the only way to speak openly about race in America as a glancing blow at those who have relied on racism throughout American history — first as an existential necessity, and now as an existential last resort.
  
  The author is talking about people who still hold out visions of continuing to trade on their lack of melatonin, and who have supposed that this same lack spells race superiority? They do this at the expense of their equally-suffering fellow citizens who just happen to come ready-packaged in a darker outer wrapper.
  
  Here, the author shows how this America-centric fantasy has come to an abrupt and ignominious halt It has boomeranged back onto those very fantasizing people.
  
  While they buy the pre-cooked racist pie-in-the-sky — the red meat rhetoric of rich politicians, who are merely trying to hold their place at the top of the economic Ponzi scheme — they fall like a rock tossed into the Mississippi.
  
  Sadly, they are so economically and emotionally rattled and incompetent, they refuse to take the time to notice that when everyone is falling down the elevator shaft at the same rate, white skin no longer holds its value.
  
  As quiet as it is kept, this author tells us that whiteness has lost all of its meaning. And most of all, cannot save those who depend on it from their own culturally-inbred self-perpetuated ignorant fantasies.
  
  They hug the flag, and then shoot themselves in the foot economically with “Trumpy bear-like” patriotic fervor.
  
  The soberest part of this book is to realize that the “real data” is telling us something we already knew That we have all been had!
  
  It is truly sad because America did not have to go down this way ...
  
  Careless, greedy, unpatriotic, mean-spirited, corrupt and sometimes even out right venal politicians on both sides of the political divide have found the need to use wedge and “reality TV” politics to drive a stake into the heart of all striving working-class people.
  
  The author says that Trump played Hilary’s “basket of deplorables” like a cheap bass fiddle. And why not? They were waiting to be had.
  
  And now, the democrats are triangulating so that in 2020 they can do the same? They want to end identity politics so that they can get to the only identity that used to matter, white identity.
  
  But we have become accustom to the fact that the political classes lie out of both sides of their mouths at the same time, as they stand in a circular firing squad pretending to point their guns at each other.
  
  But we know who their real targets are us, all working class people. And when they shoot, they do so without any regard for color whatsoever.
  
  Miraculously, when the smoke clears from their point-blank firing circle, somehow, they never manage to kill off anyone within their own circle? No matter how devastating are the crimes they commit, none of them ever get prosecuted or ever go to jail? They all always get a pass? They alway protect their own.
  
  But when the firing stops, the economy has somehow melted, and the pharmaceutical companies have replaced the Cali cartel as drug pushers of first resort, and the life-span of the ducks on the ground beneath them somehow has diminished dramatically?
  
  They then call this once every four years circular shoot-out in Washington DC, a functioning democracy? (That is not what Vladmir Putin calls it?)
  
  Obama-Biden; Hillary-Kaine, Warren-O’Rouke, or Trump-Pence roll the dice and they all come up craps!
  
  Could there be a better wake up call?
  
  As the opioid crisis sweeping across the heartland shows, the fall has been most dramatic by those who elect the Confederate-leaning Republican politicians, politicians who have never seen an American citizen they would not first fleece and then shoot in the back of the head, with a gun co-signed by the NRA.
  
  It is fitting that it took a medical doctor to tell the truth, since the medical profession is more racist than any other of America’s racist institutions, including the church. Five stars

• This is a stunning book that really helps everyone to understand the importance of protecting other creatures and their habitat, not just for their survival, but for our own. Jane Goodall is not a scold. She is thoughtful, compassionate, erudite, the most significant naturalist of her generation.
• Just to let anyone know who is considering this book, it is NOT full leather, but cardboard hardcover. It is also NOT signed, but rather it is a printed signature. It is still a nice copy of a good book.
• I'm a simple consumer - I'm not exactly a biologist or super into the topic of evolution. But this book, really, is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about chimpanzees and the scientific process of observation. While I wouldn't exactly recommend this to a friend as a light read, I would say it's worth reading if you're already interested. I learned a great deal about what it means to be a animal behavior researcher as well as a good deal about the habits of chimpanzees and other animals in Gombe.
• I recently saw the movie "Jane" in the theaters. This book was a nice exploration into Jane Goodall's research in Gombe. Great photos
  of the chimpanzees in the main group and I liked the fact that she gave insight into how the group members were doing after she handed
  over the bulk of the research to her team. So glad she is still able to go back occasionally. Her voice to the world about the importance of
  respecting nature is so heartwarming.
• Jane Goodall is the most talented woman whose love of animals brought her out to Africa. She observed so many things never witnessed by anyone before! As she knows the calls of the chimpanzies, I also would howl with my coyotes here in the desert. Her love of animals came quite early as did mine. This book is a great document of her many years with the animals in Gombe and her struggles there. Jane is an amazing woman and leader in protecting our wild places.
• Seeing the pictures of her life and learning about the activities and progress of the projects that Jane Goodall has been committed to all these years is so heartening in a world that so often seems to not care about much of anything real. Jane's long commitment to the chimps, our closest relatives, is such an inspiring story. The photos, charts and words in this book help to inspire the reader, as well. If you are a fan of Goodall you will love owning this book. You will pick it up again and again.
  Thank you Jane Goodall for the world you allowed all of us to be part of. The chimps' world brings us closer to understanding our own selves and the part we must play in our whole world today.
• Live the life of adventure and discovery through the eyes of Jane Goodall. Her love of nature, animals and beauty is so evident throughout this book and you'll sit fascinated with the antics, personalities and life and existance of Jane and chimps alike. Jane has given them all names and you'll forget at times they are animals and not human. Her daring and bravery, as a young and adventurous girl, are awe-inspiring, creating the wishful desire to have spent time in her shoes. Dropped in the middle of the jungle with no formal college training in animal behavior, she was to observe the Chimps with a view uncluttered by "facts". The first challenge was to gain the trust of the chimpanzees so that she could get close enough to live amongst them. With only a tent for protection, the book is the result of her years of keeping journals while living in the jungle and learning how to fit into the society of the chimps. It's beautiful, funny and sad; but most of all amazing.
• Jane Goodall is a great writer and she really gives you a feel for what it was like to have been her. You want to know what happens to her chimps. I good read for any animal lover.
